Biking in Squamish. B.C.

Squamish is quickly becoming a mountain biking mecca. It is well known that some of the best biking trails are located in the Sea-to-Sky region of British Columbia. Squamish's natural landscape is ideal for both mountain and road biking. The diversity of the physical terrain, combined with the hard work of the many volunteer trail builders and mountain bike enthusiasts have sculpted Squamish's unparalleled trails.

Whether you are a first time biker, or looking to enjoy one of the well known races in the region, Executive Suites Garibaldi makes for a great base. All suites are large enough that you can bring your bikes in for the night, and if you need a bike wed be happy to help you to find just the right rental store. Before you head out, pick up a detailed bike trail map of the region from the front desk.

Visitors enjoy gentle cruises in the estuary and friendly cross country trails in the Alice Lake area, to steep downhill descents on Diamondhead. Theres something for every skill level. The four main areas include: to the south, Valleycliffe/Crumpit Woods with its hike-a-bike granite playground. Diamond Heads vehicle access offers trails for the big bike shuttles. Alice Lake is perfect for first timers with its gentle slopes and some technical descents. And there are the valley trails and dykes.

With so many trails covering such a large area, the options are endless and worth getting an introduction to the trails. Maps and guide books are also available at the Squamish Adventure Centre on Highway 99 as well as at all bike shops. As well, the local bike shops can set you up with last minute supplies and tips on the must hit trails for your skill level. Test Of Metal annual event in June
The NSCU Squamish Test of Metal cross-country mountain bike race covers a 67-kilometre course with over 1,200 meters of climbing and 35 kilometers of single-track. Its an unforgettable day for everyone involved from the organizers, over 300 volunteers, thousands of spectators and of course the 1000 riders who begin their day with a mass start at Brennan Park, Squamish. For those in the saddle the unrelenting course will take the fastest just over 2 hours, the average competitor 3-4 hours and the humans 5-6 hours.

FLOW GearJammer Downhill - July 23-24, 2010
The GearJammer cross-country mountain bike race is a 52 kilometer point to point race, single track, through some of the best trails that Squamish has to offer. GearJammer is one of the Test of Metal Group Events and hosts hundreds of local and international riders each year.

Cheakamus Challenge – Fall Classic Mountain Bike Race, September 18, 2010
For over 20 years The Cheakamus Challenge has been a final exam for riders wanting to challenge themselves in this classic point to point course that joins Squamish and Whistler with 70 km of beautiful yet punishing terrain. Over the years the Cheakamus Challenge has seen over 13,000 racers hit the course and push themselves through intense climbs, following single track and steep technical descends in order to complete the journey that ends at Whistler Creekside.
